The Farmery's marketing strategy will largely focus on educating the community and having a prominent presence in the community.
Place:
The Farmery needs a lot that will allow the east and west sun to hit the long side of the container. There should be no shade from neighboring high-rises or trees. The Farmery should be within walking distance of a neighborhood.
The Farmery will have an online marketplace with deliveries that occur 2-3 times per week to coincide with the deliveries to local restaurants. The delivery will only be to areas inside the metropolitan area.
Pricing:
The princing at the Farmery will be competition based pricing, with natural food stoes setting the standard. The Farmery will differentiate through customer experience, product selection and cultivation methods. Pricing at teh Farmery will be simlar to natural food stores such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's. It will cost less to produce the same organic produce available at Natural Food Stores because there will be less produce loss, lower transportation expenses, and lower cultivation costs. Prices will be more expensive for higher maintenance crops such as microgreens. The pricing goal is to meet the status quo of natural food stores and compete on custoemr experience and product quality. Pricing for restaurants will be set at the wholesale plus 15%.
Promotion:
The Promotion of the Farmery will concentrate on establishing a community presence and educating consumers about local food.
To establish a community presence the Farmery will use blogging, twitter and other social media activities to generate buzz about the Farmery. The bi-weekly farmers market will be a marketing tool that will bring consumers into the Farmery to purchase the Farmery's crops. Sample boxes will be sent to restaurants in the area and followed up with a visit by a sales representative.
To educate consumers the Farmery will have a local food blog on its website and have store displays with information on local farmers, their cultivation techniques and information about eating with the seasons.
